At the Heart of the GSS Community

The Parents' Auxiliary is at the heart of the Gulf Stream School community, bringing families together through events, volunteerism, and shared school spirit. Events

Throughout the year, Gulf Stream School offers a variety of events that bring together students, families, and faculty in meaningful and memorable ways. The Parents’ Auxiliary plays an integral role in each, whether organizing the event, providing volunteers, or hosting the receptions. These events strengthen community, celebrate school spirit, and enrich student life beyond the classroom. We encourage you to join us.

List of 10 items.

  • Lower School Parents’ Night

An opportunity to hear from the Parents’ Auxiliary about events and volunteer opportunities, sign up to help, and learn about your child’s curriculum and classroom expectations. Attire is business casual. Middle School parent volunteers assist with the event and reception.
  • Middle School Parents’ Night

An opportunity to learn about your child’s curriculum and classroom expectations. Copies of materials will be available that evening. Attire is business casual. Lower School parent volunteers assist with the event and reception.
  • Family Picnic

Organized by the Parents’ Auxiliary, this is a casual, family-friendly event. Bring a blanket and dinner, connect with other families, and enjoy activities for children. Past offerings include bounce houses, games, face painting, an ice cream truck, and races. There is no set agenda; attire is casual.
  • Book Fair

A three-day event organized by the Parents’ Auxiliary, typically held in the first semester in the Julien Arts & Innovation Center. Parents are invited to join their child’s class visit. The School receives a percentage of all sales, making it a great opportunity for early holiday shopping.
  • Founders’ Day Program

Held on the last day of school before Thanksgiving, Founders’ Day includes an essay contest in the weeks leading up to the event. Each grade selects one winner to read their essay at the ceremony. The program honors the School’s history and its founders, Ada Belle and William Johnston. Parents are invited and should dress comparably to students in dress uniform. A reception organized by the Auxiliary follows.
  • Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day

This event gives grandparents or special friends a chance to experience a Gulf Stream School day. The morning begins with breakfast on the Armour Field, hosted by the Parents’ Auxiliary, followed by classroom visits. The day concludes with a musical performance in the Clough Chapel by Lower School classes and Middle School ensembles. Dismissal is at noon. Attire should reflect the significance of the occasion.

New GSS families, please submit the names and mailing addresses of grandparents and special friends using the provided form HERE.
  • Field Day

A spirited, school-wide event where students are divided into Blue and White teams, with families on the same team. The day begins at 8:20 a.m. in Clough Chapel. Events then move to the Armour Field, alternating between Lower and Middle School. Snacks and drinks are available throughout the day, along with a raffle and typically a sno-cone truck. Dismissal is at noon. Students wear regular shorts, a Field Day t-shirt (or plain blue or white shirt), and sneakers. Parents Auxiliary runs a raffle, organizes volunteer support, and provides snacks and food.
  • Graduation

A meaningful ceremony for 8th graders and their families, featuring student speakers and a guest speaker, often an alumnus/a graduating senior. All parents are invited; attire should reflect the significance of the occasion. Parents Auxiliary hosts a reception afterward.
  • Hot Lunches

Parents Auxiliary hosts three themed hot lunches throughout the year, featuring coordinated décor, costumes, and menus that bring each theme to life. A fun and festive break in the school day for students.
  • Fundraiser

Each Spring, the Parents' Auxiliary hosts a major volunteer driven fundraiser. This event alternates between a golf and tennis tournament, and themed dinner party or gala.
