Gulf Stream School is dedicated exclusively to the PK–8 experience — the years when children discover what interests them, what challenges them, how they learn, and who they are becoming. Because we do not have a high school, this campus belongs entirely to childhood and early adolescence — the resources, the leadership roles, the relationships.
Students learn alongside teachers who know them well and push them appropriately. That continuity — of community, of relationships, of high expectations — is what makes a Gulf Stream education different.

The GSS History
Gulf Stream School's history begins with Ada Belle and William Johnston, educators from New London, Connecticut. The family moved to South Florida in search of a more temperate climate for their daughter, whose health was a concern. Settling in the coastal community of Gulf Stream, the Johnstons founded Gulf Stream School in 1938, initially educating children from families who spent the winter season in the area. The school began modestly in a converted polo barn, reflecting Gulf Stream's early identity as a community closely tied to polo and seasonal life. From those beginnings, the Johnstons established a tradition of personal education rooted in the school's distinctive surroundings.

The 2026–2031 GSS Strategic Plan provides a vision for the future and a clear framework for the priorities that will guide Gulf Stream School forward.
