The Benefits of Our Physical Education Program

At Gulf Stream School, our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Physical Education programs utilize movement to foster early social development and collaboration.

The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Physical Education program provides a developmentally appropriate environment where students learn fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, pathways, and spatial awareness. Through movement activities and low-organized games, children learn to follow directions, work cooperatively, practice good sportsmanship, manipulate equipment and build confidence.

  • Establishing Physical Education Goals

In addition to physical skills, primary goals of the physical education program are the development of self-confidence and a positive self-image in each child as well as senses of sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play.
  • Exploration of Movement and Awareness

Physical Education in Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten emphasizes the exploration of movement and spatial awareness.  Emphasis is placed on following multi-step directions and rules as well as on self-control. The children use a variety of equipment such as bean bags, hula hoops, various balls, carpet squares, balance and core strength, and the parachute.
