A Shared Vision for Our Students

A Portrait of a Stringray —Gulf Stream School’s Portrait of a Graduate— provides a shared vision of what student success at Gulf Stream School should look like in practice. It identifies the skills and qualities students should develop throughout their education, helping ensure they are prepared for not only high school but also for college and life. 

At its core, a Portrait of a Graduate serves as a practical guide. It brings the GSS school community together around a common understanding of the children it seeks to develop and the experiences that will help them thrive in life. It helps leadership establish priorities and make decisions that reflect shared values and gives teachers a framework for course objectives, instruction, and assessment. 

Beyond the Classroom, Beyond the Expected

Grounded in our motto, “Knowledge is the light of life,” and our commitment to teacher-student relationships and personalized learning, the Portrait identifies qualities of a Gulf Stream graduate.

    We form a strong internal compass and practice empathy and respect for others in our daily interactions. Guided by courtesy, civil discourse, and sportsmanship, we learn to collaborate as inclusive teammates.

    We choose to do what is right and treat others with kindness simply because character matters, even when nobody is looking. We take ownership and rise to challenges.

    Driven by an authentic curiosity and a natural sense of wonder, we look at the world with an open mind, cultivating a problem-solving mindset that develops from eagerly diving into new experiences.

    From Pre Primary to Lower School to Middle School, our curriculum, field trips, and individualized education sets the bar high for lifelong learning that encourages Stingrays to discover and hone their unique voices.

Our graduates continue on to strong high school programs, carrying with them the confidence, character, curiosity, and independence developed throughout their Gulf Stream School years.
