Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten Physical Education

Our athletic programs provide opportunities for social interaction and help develop cooperation and problem-solving skills.

The Benefits of our Physical Education Program

At Gulf Stream School, Students in PK through Grade 3 are exposed to a variety of sports and physical activities through which they learn basic skills, rules, strategies, sportsmanship, cooperation, and healthy competition.

Our Individualized Approach

Physical Education programs are customized for each grade level and students are assessed multiple times throughout the year in order to monitor development. Once in middle school, students participate on school teams in interscholastic competition. In Lower School, Physical Education (P.E.) generally meets four times a week.

Exploration of Movement and Awareness

Physical Education in Pre-kindergarten emphasizes the exploration of movement and spatial awareness. Our program provides an opportunity for social interaction, cooperative skills, and problem solving. Emphasis is placed on following multi-step directions and rules as well as on self-control. The children use a variety of equipment such as bean bags, hula hoops, various balls, carpet squares, the parachute, and the earth ball.

Establishing Physical Education Goals

In addition to physical skills, primary goals of the physical education program are the development of self-confidence and a positive self-image in each child as well as senses of sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play.

We teach our students a love of learning that will carry them into the future.
