The Gulf Stream School Counseling Program assists in each student's achievement of high academic standards as well as his or her development of strong values and respect for self, others, and the community. The counselor conducts regular classes in Lower School on issues such as kindness, friendship, telling vs. tattling, etc. She also works with students individually or in small groups, on topics including social skills, conflict resolution, divorce, or anxiety. In addition, the counselor serves as a consultant to teachers and parents, providing information about meeting students' academic and emotional needs. When there are concerns about learning styles and/or differences, she may conduct preliminary tests to determine strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies as well as whether further testing by a licensed psychologist may be advisable. She does not diagnose learning differences or disorders.
